L'isola di Ventotene. Riflessioni sul paesaggio e i suoi valori.

The essay aims to highlight the landscape components of the island of Ventotene, analyzing the current urban planning, history and naturalistic features of the site. The island is an important environmental resource and it is a State Natural Reserve (RNS) and as a Marine Protected Area (AMP). However, the current legislative instruments are not sufficient to activate a real landscape conservation plan, not considering the relationships with anthropic activities nor with the economic and depopulation problems that concern the small island territory. In particular, the problem of abandoning the fields emerges, which without care or maintenance risk losing their identity, allowing the allochthonous vegetation to advance to the detriment of the nature of the place. Proper planning must integrate the various problems into a future vision of local development. The essay exposes some reflections on the safeguarding of the identity of the place, referring to the concepts of territory, environment and landscape, to be considered as the basis of landscape planning.
